Gold Dollar. 1878. Trompeter Collection on holder. PCGS graded Proof 65. An outstanding example of this extremely rare date. The fields have deep mirror reflectivity, with superb frosted devices. Thought to be one of 20 minted, with PCGS having graded only 4 this high, and none graded higher. The surfaces are pristine, with a few very light hairlines, none distracting. A superb, two-tone jewel, with crisp wire edges. Although from the Kaufman Collection, known for his display of coins on a "tack" board, only two minor disturbances were noted in the Trompeter catalog, not visible in the current PCGS holder. An opportunity to purchase one of the rarest and most underrated Proof Gold Dollars in full Gem condition!
